Hi there, thanks for taking the time to look through my website.
As you have seen from my website, I’m a multi-disciplined Creative; a coach, a director, script developer and a performer.
At the root of my work is my core discipline, The Meisner Technique. This is an acting technique borne from the Stanislavski system, and later adapted and reimagined by modern American Method practitioners. The emphasis is on living truthfully under imaginary circumstances, and in order to do that, the technique uses disciplined exercises to uncover and broaden an actor’s ability to be truthful…not simply to pretend to be truthful, but to actually be truthful.
For those of you from a non-acting background, it’s similar to NLP and CBT. To develop a person’s, or an actor’s, authenticity, they need to know how to be authentic themselves. Over a decade of experience with this technique has taught me that it is truly adaptable to any person who wants to improve their awareness about themselves, other people and their impact on their life/career. I have coached individuals for TED talks, held communication workshops for the NHS, and guided entrepreneurs through Life Coaching.
I am also Artistic Director and founder of the salon:collective, a collective of artists training actors, developing writers, sharing skills & breaking new boundaries through collaboration. I run the majority of my acting classes through the salon:collective.
I created a new writing development initiative, salon:lab – ‘caffeine for a new writer’, which has launched new writers into their first professional productions.
You can find me teaching at my home, the salon:collective, where I am the course director and lead tutor. I also teach and have taught at the following: Drama Studio London, City Lit, Regent’s University, City of Westminster College, MUK in Vienna. I visit international schools and work with local groups and practitioners too, and my tours have taken me to Paris, Geneva, Vienna, Cairo, Dubai, Melbourne and L.A, with Berlin, Vietnam, Thailand and China penned in for this year. I love to travel…
I take all sorts of unique jobs, which challenge me and keep me on my toes. Examples of these include; an anger management workshop for an MTV show; I was employed by Baileys to create an Easter Eggstravaganza for celebrities with promenade performance throughout the whole of the London Harvey Nichols‘ store (video here); and I found myself coaching a group of world leaders at the World Economic Forum, Geneva; also make sure you check out global sober raving movement, Morning Gloryville, I was part of the team who made that event happen.
I live on a boat in London with my husband and my whippet, Puck. We get away as often as is possible to our retreat in Shropshire, where I work with rural schools and communities; having helped create a theatre festival, Osborne and After, where I directed and produced the 60th anniversary production of Look Back in Anger, in the village where John Osborne is buried. You can watch me speak about it in the video link.
As an actor I have worked with leading Meisner coaches, Tom Radliffe (London) and Martin Barter (Los Angeles), the former lead me through the entire technique and I assisted him in the classsroom for four years, during which he directed me as Andrei in the UK Premiere of David Mamet‘s version of Three Sisters. I have since appeared with David Ryall, as Edgar, in his final theatre performance, as King Lear.
I hope that gives you a little flavour for who I am. There’s a cv in the sidebar, for those of you who love a good list.
